But with some common sense, creativity, and a little discipline, you can find money to start your home based business and start to make money too.
Common Sense
First of all, use common sense when you’re trying to start your own home based business. This may seem redundant, but it is important, beware of anything that sounds too good to be true. This ranges anywhere from the crazy emails you might get from a dethroned prince in Nigeria seeking to deposit some funds in the United States, to something as elaborate and slick as affinity fraud. Here some basic tips to avoid the most basic attempts at fraud.
Pay attention to grammar!
You don’t have to be an English teacher with a red pen, but a lot of these basic phishing attacks come from people who don’t have a great grip on the mechanics and grammar of the English language. If something about the syntax seems off, don’t pay attention to it.
Only accept payments in cash, in person, through PayPal, or through a Bank.
Don’t email your account number to people. When you’re starting out, protect your assets, don’t fall victim to giving it away. If you are familiar with business financing, then you’ll know about the procedure for getting financing. If you’re not, I recommend getting a book on business finance from your local library or buying one from Amazon.com In other transactions, like selling something on Craigslist or in your local classifieds, only accept cash or payment through Paypal. That way you’ll be able to protect your assets better.
Creativity
Think that the couch cushions are the only place to look for extra money to start your home based business? Think again.
First off, start with your taxes. Most of the time people feel pretty lucky if they get a refund on their income taxes. Why should your money go to the government just to come back to you without any interest? You can put that money to better work right now! Don’t give in to these temptations, they’ll end up costing you in the long run. You don’t need to have the nicest looking desk, especially if most of your business will be done online. No one is going to see your desk. Just get a desk that fits your needs of running your own internet business. For anything that’s new, shiny, and expensive, that you’re tempted to buy just ask yourself this question: “What is the basic function of this item?”. Once you’ve figured that out, find something that meets that basic function that you can afford, or preferably, at an amazing discount. Craigslist, local classifieds, and even eBay and Amazon.com can provide you with decent items at great prices that won’t break you or your business.
