e-books – Make Money Online by Writing!
WAIT! PUT DOWN THE BROWN BAG and relax. Writing isn’t that big of a deal!
A lot of people get intimidated when they think about writing anything longer than a journal entry. Maybe it is all those bad memories from writing papers about things you didn’t care about in high school English (or even writing about the things you did care about in College). Or maybe because you don’t think you’re an author or even a good writer. Whatever the reason, writing isn’t as intimidating as most people make it out to be. Just follow the tips here, and you’ll be fine. And the hardest e-book is usually the first one you write, after that you’ll find that the writing gets easier, and you can make some easy money online!
Find a Topic You Love
The biggest piece of advice that I can give you is to not worry about writing a full-fledged book that’s hundreds of pages long. You can write an e-book with only 15 to 20 pages with different sections instead of chapter. The first thing to do is to find a topic that you know about and that you are passionate about as well. But don’t just limit your initial brainstorm to coming up with one idea, branch out and come up with at least 20 ideas. (If you don’t have 20 all at once, that’s fine, but you’ll want to get your brain working so you can get the best idea out there). I suggest starting with a scratch piece of paper and a pencil or pen and just writing down as many ideas you can think of. Don’t worry if the ideas aren’t full and fleshed out, just get as many ideas down as you can.
Once you’ve written all of your ideas down, then it is the time to flesh out the ideas and select the four or five that you think would be most popular. Do some research on eBay and around the web for what ideas are trending and what other e-books are being sold. But make sure that you don’t just copy verbatim (you’ll get nabbed for copyright infringement) or even try to paraphrase it. Make sure that what you’re going to offer is going to be unique!
It’s like Writing a Blog and Selling it!
Once you’ve done your research and decided which idea to write a book about, start writing about it. At this stage in the game, don’t worry about conforming to any outlines or structure. Think of it as a blog that you’re writing but aren’t making public. The purpose of this is to get your brain thinking and brainstorm what you’re going to say.
Keep Your Readers’ Attention
It is extremely important to keep your readers’ attention which you’ll want to do in two ways: write from an outline and write attention getting titles. These are the basics to get someone interesting in reading your e-book and will encourage more word of mouth advertising for you.
Use an Outline
I think I may have mentioned using an outline to write on another post, but this is absolutely critical when writing something longer than three paragraphs. I know that most of you, like my kids, are just happy if you got your papers handed in to your high school English teacher on time, but have you ever considered what your teacher had to go through to read those papers? Most of them, I’m willing to bet, had no structure to speak of, rambled, and had a lot of filler. No wonder your English teacher looked so angry. The potential readers of your e-books, however, won’t be forced to pay attention to your e-book. If they don’t like it, they’ll stop reading, and probably ask for their money back.
Having a structured book and flow will help the reader understand what you are trying to say. What good will it do you if no one can understand what you are trying to say? No matter how amazing or attractive your titles are, you have to write in a manner that is easy to follow and will make your points clear.
Write Attention-Getting titles
Make sure that when you are writing the titles for your book and the chapters that you write something that will capture people’s attention. You will want to use these types of titles both in the different chapters or sections of your e-book but also online where you will sell the book. Make sure that when you write the book that you pay attention to the main point of each section. When you have made sure you know exactly what your main point is going to be, think of different and creative ways to summarize it and make that summary statement exciting and interesting.
Sell it on eBay!
Once you’ve finished writing your e-book, it is time to sell it. I recommend selling it on eBay. You can sell it in various formats, from online downloads (which you’ll need to get an FTP site for) or you can burn it to CD and offer to ship it to the customers. Whichever way you choose, make sure that you are honest about your product and that you set up a method for any potential customer to get a refund if they aren’t satisfied with the product. You will want to determine your price point through doing research about similar items on eBay and also by trial and error. That way you can find the best price point to sell your e-Book. Who knows? You could make this your internet business!
